Since opening its doors in August 2011, Chilli Vanilla has been synonymous with good food, great wine and wonderful service. Hungarian Szilvia Pinter opened the restaurant with the vision of bringing authentic Hungarian cuisine (and more) to discerning diners. The cosy establishment is located along KK City’s Jalan Haji Saman (facing the Wisma Merdeka shopping complex).
On the menu, you’ll find a variety of European and Mediterranean-inspired dishes. Promoting healthier eating choices are a must here! So, organic vegetables are used and you won’t find any traces of MSG, palm oil or margarine in their food.
Everything is homemade and the kitchen staff are personally trained by Szilvia to maintain the authenticity of the dishes. Chilli Vanilla keeps it exciting by changing up their menu every now so you can be sure there’s always something new!
Let’s start diggin‘
For starters, you can’t go wrong with the gluten-free Mediterranean Salad – a zesty combination of cucumber, tomatoes, chick peas, black olives, red onions, grilled aubergine, feta cheese and Balsamic dressing.
A favourite on the menu is the Spicy Duck Tortillas, which features smoked duck breast smothered in cheese with a spicy Jalapeno zing. The Chicken Roulade deserves a special mention for its full flavor and tender chicken combined with spinach and cream cheese. If you want Hungarian cuisine, we recommend the Bakony Style Grilled Fish (they use imported Tilapia) with mushrooms and sour cream, served with spaetzle (egg and flour noodles or dumplings). Enjoy your meals with their range of refreshing beverages (try the Ice Mint Kalamansi!).
Set lunches are available from Mondays to Fridays (except Public Holidays) from 10:00am to 3:00pm. The set comes with soup, a choice of mains (chicken, pasta or vegetarian) and a slice of cake for dessert. Chilli Vanilla seats 30 diners comfortably and is available for smaller private functions. Those looking for thirst-quenchers can enjoy a wide range of wines, beers and cocktails. Don’t let this little hole in the wall fool you – it’s big on taste.
Opening hours: 11:00am to 10:00pm (Monday to Saturday). Closed on Sunday.
Location: 35, Jalan Haji Saman, 88000 Kota Kinabalu.
